LABAN CLIFF MAKES DRIVING DEBUT AT THIS WEEKEND’s AUTO CROSS IN KIPETO, KAJIADO COUNTY.
Rally Co driver, Laban Cliff – Onserio, 29 will be shelving his pace notes as he tries his hands and feet in performance driving at this weekend’s Auto cross competition to be held in Kipeto, Kajiado County. The career business journalist and communications strategist was the immediate former navigator to Nzioka Waita in an ex Carl Tundo Mitsubishi Evolution 9 under the Kenya Safaricom Racing Team.
He started his navigating career in 2010 in Kampala, Uganda with Dr. Mohamed Ashraf. He has since sat with Gideon Kimani (Toyota Levin 2WD), Darren Miranda (Subaru N12) and Geoff Mayes (Toyota Levin 2WD).
“It has been a journey. I begun as a volunteer service crew “trainee” for Azar Anwar under the Oilibya Racing Team. Learnt a lot about rallying and general motorsports preparation. I’d study during the day and join the team for overnight prep work, fun times!” says Cliff
Laban Cliff will be driving ex Aqib Vayani Buggy in the 2WD non turbo class. It is powered by a 1.3 L Toyota Engine and is fitted with Tein suspension. The Kenya Motorsport Federation (KMSF) confirmed his 2018 seed number as 115.
“It is in good condition, I enjoyed the test drive. Let us see how Kipeto goes, for me it is all about handling the machine. Most top drivers started from this level and I’m taking it all in a stride, hoping to perfect my skills“ he added.
Laban Cliff has also expressed wishes to participate in the Raid competitions depending the reception from his potential sponsors. This weekend, he will drive “In Memory of Mr. P.M. Waita 1945 – 2018” celebrating the life of Nzioka’s late Dad.
